UX Virtual Panel: Inclusive Design vs. Universal Design vs. Accessibility

Is there a difference between the terms universal design, inclusive design and accessibility? In this virtual panel, our panelists will discuss the differences and similarities between these terms and what they ultimately mean in the context of modern-day UX.

Our team of panelists includes:

  • Wendy Chisholm, Principal Accessibility Architect at Microsoft. Wendy co-wrote “Universal Design for Web Applications” with Matt May and edited Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 and 2.0.
  • Matt May, Head of Inclusive Design at Adobe. Matt’s work includes inclusive design practices across Adobe’s user experience, training and mentoring the Adobe Design team.
  • Glenda Sims, Team A11y Lead at Deque, where she shares her expertise and passion for the open web with government organizations, educational institutions, and companies ranging in size from small business to enterprise.
  • Aparna Pasi, Accessibility Team Lead at Deque. Her knowledge focuses on user-centered design, usability testing, interaction design as well as HTML 5 and CSS3.
  • Denis Boudreau, Principal Web Accessibility Consultant and Training Lead at Deque. He actively participates in the W3C as a member of the Education and Outreach Working Group, where he leads the development of a framework to break down accessibility responsibilities by roles in the development lifecycle.
