Deque University for Self-Paced Web Accessibility Courses

In recent weeks, we’ve been highlighting the courses we offer at Deque University. To refresh, Deque University is our online comprehensive web accessibility “university.” It’s a way for web developers, designers, QA testers, and content creators to get educated on all aspects of web accessibility. We provide the practical guidance to make an accessibility program an achievable reality, with working examples and detailed instruction – along with useful tips and quizzes.

Deque University offers a multitude of self-paced and instructor-led web accessibility courses. These courses vary in level of difficulty, and some are targeted towards more specific students (ie, web developers) while others are intended for everyone (like our introductory course, “Web Accessibility Fundamentals).”

Strengthen your Accessibility Fundamentals with HTML and CSS Accessibility

Our past few blog posts focused on some of our more advanced Deque University courses, including Web Accessibility Testing Techniques and ARIA and JavaScript Accessibility. This week, we’re going to focus on a course that we recommend taking first, as it strengthens the foundation provided in the Web Accessibility Fundamentals Course. It’s the HTML and CSS Accessibility Course. This course is essential for beefing up your knowledge on building accessible HTML and CSS, with detailed best practice instruction derived from WCAG 2.0 guidelines.

The HTML and CSS Accessibility Course will teach students how to incorporate accessibility into their work with HTML and CSS. Upon completion, this course should empower students with the ability to:

  • Construct webpages with accessibility in mind
  • Identify HTML and CSS accessibility bugs
  • Implement the correct HTML and CSS coding to webpages in order to both fix accessibility issues, and prevent future accessibility errors
  • Integrate HTML and CSS accessibility into their new content creation plans

Aside from taking the introductory Web Accessibility Fundamentals course, the only prerequisite for our HTML and CSS Accessibility course is a strong knowledge of HTML and intermediate CSS skills.
