The mass burnout of disabled accessibility workers is a wildfire that digital accessibility as an industry has to address. Disabled workers are integral to a diverse team and organization, and accessibility teams should be the most welcoming and accepting places for disabled workers. However, data shows they are not because of the implicit and explicit bias favoring non-disabled people and leaving disabled accessibility workers disadvantaged regarding recognition, compensation, awards, and advancement. Soren examines our industry’s current state through an inclusive operations lens and proposes tools to imagine a well-hydrated, more equitable future for accessibility workers.
