Does your design conform with WCAG accessibility guidelines — or does it comply?

There is definitely some degree of overlap between digital accessibility compliance and digital accessibility conformance, as both aim to make digital experiences accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. The primary purpose of these concepts is to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access and use websites without any barriers or challenges.
In this talk, we will discuss the “blurred” line between accessibility conformance and accessibility compliance, sharing examples of how it is essential to strive for accessibility conformance, going above and beyond basic compliance standards to prioritize all users’ needs truly.
At Pinterest, sometimes we struggle to balance accessibility needs and standards with business requirements, even though accessibility is one of our design system pillars. To help with that, I’m working on a framework to support designers in prioritizing accessibility aligning with business needs. It is a work in progress to improve our product accessibility for the following year.
